The Best Places to Eat in Koh Tao

I am a firm believer that the best part of your trip research can be done by other people.  In my case, I just happened to be super lucky with Koh Tao. My friends that I was going to meet there had both lived there before so they told me all of the best places to eat in Koh Tao.  In your case, you can just listen to me!

Best Places to Eat in Koh Tao

Koh Tao is basically divided up by locations in relation to the beach they are on.  I’ve separated these by area, but everything is relatively close, so be sure to take a taxi and get out to the good ones, even if you aren’t staying on this particular beach :)

Mae Head

Cafe De Sol

If you are looking for western cuisine and a fun environment, you will love Cafe De Sol.  Full of tasty dishes and pizzas.  This restaurant is situated in the bustling downtown of Mae Head where you can watch the passers by as you enjoy fresh shakes with your fantastic food.  Recommended:  Greek Salad with Parma Ham.

Safety Stop

Great place to stop (or Safety Stop! haha) in the evenings for a beer, or in the afternoon for a shake.  My favorite shake by far was called “Banana Mud”.  As a chocolate connoisseur (Read: Addict), I found this to be the perfect blend of chocolate and fruit :)

Famoso

If you are looking for Italian and have a craving for Pizza, make sure to go here.  We each had our own pizza and happily finished every bite.  Recommended:  Parma Pizza or Greek Pizza.

Whitening

A perfect place to watch the sun go down and enjoy a fancy beachside meal.  We went here for my last evening, and I can honestly say it was the best ambiance I have experienced in a very long time.  Be sure to make reservations, as Whitening fills up fast.  Best picks:  Chargrilled Chicken Salad, Seafood Platter.

Sairee

Farango

Are you a Farang (foreigner)?  Than you will enjoy Farango!  The menu is so packed with tasty delights that it could take you forever to even place your order!  That is what happened to us :)  If you are a group, I would highly recommend getting the Antipasti Platter.  If you are going solo, pick from any of the pastas or salads.  I had the three cheese pizza and it was so amazing I actually refused to share!!

The Tank

This might just be the Best beach spot in the world.  Perfectly nestled between two large boulders, you can soak up the sun as you sip on a shake on a comfy outdoor lounger.  Amazing Thai food, and really great atmosphere, day or night.  Nonstop chill music is playing to soothe your weary body.  Best dish?  Smoked Duck Thai Spicy Salad with a Mixed Fruit Shake.

Cholak Baan Kao

Yin Yang

If you are after some traditional Thai food, you must make the trip to Cholak Baan Kao for some super yummy Massaman. This restaurant will be packed, because everyone loves it!  They make the Massaman many hours in advance which is what gives it such an amazing texture and rich flavor.  I had the Massaman Chicken, I think it is one of the best dishes I’ve ever had here in Thailand!

I hope you have enjoyed this post, and feel free to leave comments on your favorite places to eat in Koh Tao!
