Are you interested in driving more traffic to your site?
Duh, everybody is.
About once a week I get an annoying email from some SEO ‘guru’ offering to send more traffic to my site. The thing is… I often ask myself, if they are writing me direct, are they not getting enough traffic to their site?? Maybe I should offer them some SEO Advice. If you want to drive more traffic to your site, the rules are pretty simple. Maybe you are a tech person, follow the links and install as you go. Not to worry- give me a shout. Two of my consulting programs include technical assistance in these areas and we can start getting you more traffic STAT.
Get More Traffic – Beep Beep!!
I haven’t had much problem getting traffic to my site, so I thought I’d share a few tips to those of you looking to increase your traffic. Firstly if you want to drive more traffic to your site you must change the way you are thinking about your own content. You are a human, and you have your views and opinions, and your business.
But, Google is a SEARCH ENGINE. It is a computer that searches for words, or phrases of words, and matches the words in your pages, posts, and products to the words people are searching for. If you aren’t following Google’s rules, guess what?! You are missing out. If you want to rank high with Google, you need to write regularly, think in terms of search, focus your content on keywords.
Top 10 Ways to Get More Traffic to Your Site
- Have a Blog and Write Regularly — by having a blog, you are writing New Content, often, which means that you have more searchable content, and this means that Google likes you. I have a WordPress blog that I host on BlueHost. They have the best customer support that I have found so far.
- Think in terms of Search — oftentimes bloggers (myself included!) think in terms of what they want to write or feel like writing. In practice, this is good, that is what makes writing fun. However, if you want to increase clicks and drive more traffic to your site, you need to know some simple Google tricks. Fill your content and main pages with SEO Rich keywords, and you will get more clicks! I’ll outline these in a future post, WAY too much to go into on this one. But, when you are thinking about your topic, title, and filling out your Meta Description – think in terms of what your customers are searching for.
- Know Yourself and Know Your Audience — Think about what it is you want to know. Go to your browsing history and see which “How To” pages you checked out. What is it that you need to know? Chances are, your audience does too! Summarize what you are learning for your audience.
- Make sure your mailing list is Getting Your Blog Posts — this is a HUGE mistake that I see people making. They assume that if people have been to their site before, that they will want to come back. . . not really true. I have an auto-publish feature on my MailChimp account that allows my mailing list to receive posts or post summaries to ensure more readership. Be aware of how often you post, and remember not to spam, a weekly or monthly overview is often enough, but it keeps your readers reading!
- Write on other Blogs or Forums — try to comment, link out to other bloggers you like, people in your niche. After you’ve established a rapport, set up interviews or guest posts. All of these links are counted by Google, and Linkbacks are considered another way to validate your site, and authenticity. (Plus, you can widen your audience this way, too!)
- Adsense — My advice is if you want to pay for ads that will drive traffic to your site, make sure you have a sales funnel set up. You need very clear way to Collect Names, Earn Money, and Sell on your site. Not sure how to do this? Contact me and I can coach you and help you set it up.
- Take Mini Breaks From Your Blog. Sometimes it is easy to get bogged down by the whole blogging process. Maybe you feel like you have to keep a fixed schedule, you need original content. Or, you are just having a period of time where you can’t seem to write. This is OK! I think every blogger goes through this at one point or another. I write in bulk and schedule my posts for the future. By doing this, I can let myself take a break and come back with a fresh new vibe!
- Share, Share, Share — Make sure you are sharing what you are doing on various forms of social media. This helps you rank higher in Search, and it also allows people to see what you are working on. I use Buffer to schedule and send my SM automatically.
- Make it Mobile — people like to read on the go, so make sure your site can be sized to fit the latest technology gadgets! Check out the AMP Plugin to give your mobile users a better experience.
- Stick with an SEO Plugin that works for you! Having 17 SEO plugins and not using any of them properly is totally pointless. I use Yost SEO Plugin and I have gone through every single page and post to optimize based on their recommendations.
