Travel: What to do in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Not sure What to do in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia?  Read on!  Kuala Lumpur or ‘KL’ has always been a place I’ve wanted to check out.  Being a nearby town and popular visa run destination, I’d heard lots of good stuff about it from my friends.  So, when I was booking my flight to Paris and realized it was flying out of KL, I decided to stay a few days and check it out.

After being in a remote beach town for a long while, KL offers a nice sort of refreshing metropolis.   The culture is diverse, the food choices are overwhelming, the shopping was cheap, and the entertainment was awesome.

China Town

I stayed in China Town Inn, in the heart of the China Town markets where you take one step out of your door and are overwhelmed/accosted with things to buy.  As my friend Shaun found out, you can buy everything from fake Rolexes, to knock off Levis, any T-shirt imaginable, and also find novelty items like brass knuckle belt buckles.  I made my way to the Center Market and found trinkets and souvenirs from around the world to bring back home, as well as a Chinese style dress that the helpful ladies were more than happy to alter for me.

Twin Towers

Architecturally, KL has a lot to offer.  The two main attractions being the PETRONAS Twin Towers, and the needle.  They really are breathtaking, and overwhelmingly large, you can see in the photo here.

Food and shopping seem to be the main theme of KL, at least if you are a tourist.  Or, if you live in other parts of Malaysia, it’s a great place to get the things that you normally can’t.  When I met up with my friend Jenni, we decided to spend the day checking out another part of town.

Berjaya Times Square

We went to Times Square (or the Pavilion), and it is ten+ stories of amazing fun.

Yes, there is food and shopping, but there is also an indoor roller coaster!

We went to find out how to get on it and happily discovered that it was not just a rollercoaster, but also an entire indoor theme park!  I was SO EXCITED.  I love rides and haven’t been on one for years.  For a mere 43 RM, we spent the next few hours laughing and screaming and being turned, twisted, and shaken about.  It was great!!

3D Movie Time!

On the tenth floor, is a cinema.  But, not just any cinema, it is a 3D giant cinema.  So, naturally, we had to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3D so we could hang out closely with Johney Depp.  If you decide to see a movie here, you should get your tickets early.  You can do this on the 4th floor without having to go up to the top.  Tickets are only 20 RM!

And after all of the rollercoasters, 3D sensations, and lit up walk back to China Town, I jumped on two trains and a bus to the airport.  I’m now sitting on the plane flying off to Paris and nervously awaiting my reentrance into the Western world.  I think KL was the perfect stop to take to remember some of the fun that can be had in the cities around the world, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity to visit there!
